Re: SMD Crystal oscillator

I've been doing SMD plug-in cards. All parts are SMD except the crystals, mostly due to price, but the circuit is also touchy about the crystal types, so I figured I would stick with an available watch crystal and it's worked fine.

All regulators draw from the raw supply, they are not cascaded. Sorry if that was unclear. The 3.3 has a few ohms (less than ten) to reduce the I/O voltage a little.

Power is 3.0 V clean, regulated, locally bypassed on the daughter board. It's supplied by a L78L33ACZ with a 47uf output filter (minimum required). The same basic artwork is used in a reverb pedal that sometimes (although rarely) does this same thing and uses a 9V external plug in supply and the sam...

Are you using something else sweetalk ? I had the single 22pf, added another, but same issue.

thanks Frank

Appreciate the input, and in no-way am I suggesting you haven't been helpful and awesome to work with. Can you clarify "recommended circuit for making sure the crystals start up properly." It's just the FV-1 and a couple of caps on the crystal terminals. Can you elaborate ?

Startup "strangeness"

I've been discussing this with Frank via e-mail, but figured I would put it out to the masses: Has anyone experienced FV-1's that start up sounding poor ? By that I mean almost underwater or chorus-like sounding ? I'm using one of the built in reverb presets with an output volume and a dwell (decay)...

Layout precautions

Are there any parts in-particular that needs to absolutely be closely positioned at chip itself ?

I'm considering a daughterboard arrangement for just the FV-1, for possible inclusion in multiple projects which may not be SMD.

Thanks Frank

I'll reduce my filter cap values on the 3.3 supply, and add that 15-pf cap.

It works without, but now we know why we should have it.... :)

Start-up noise

When I first power up the FV-1 (into a "live" amp) it makes a rushing white noise, which tapers down to '0' in about 3-seconds. Is this normal, or should I consider a turn-on mute circuit for my product ?

Maybe I'm dense...

I guess I'm "an analogue boy in a digital age" What I meant is (for example) if pin 1 and 2 is ground and pin-3 is at voltage, you get "X" effect(s), and so forth. I understand the the dip switches or jumpers toggle the pins up or down to achieve a given preset, but is the...

Pin outs

Has anyone drawn up a simple list for configuring pins 16 through 22 for the various functions ? For example whether a pin (or combination of pins) is grounded or lifted to access a given effect or effects etc. I'm working on a few potential designs, and considering a single, multipurpose board for ...
