Using alternate pot values

Post by livingston »

I have some designs which I'd like to have expression pedal control of. This means using the pot inside an expression pedal as one of the pot inputs. I'll send 3.3v to the tip, ground the sleeve, and connect the ring to P2 pin. I'll use a switching jack to connect P2 to the MID pin when the expression pedal is removed.

But, expression pedals all have different values of pot in them. What will the effect be of having a 100k or 500k pot instead of 50k? Will this have bad loading effects on the pins?

Should be fine, if it seems to be a problem (don't recall the current requirements for POT inputs but should be very low) then you may need to use a lower value or buffer it but I think it will work. It won't harm the chip so give it a shot.
