Trying to get a ramp that rises for half a cycle and stays at maximum for
the second half, something like this:

I think it would be as simple as deriving your ramp wave, then amplifying it until it hard clips. What you have there just looks like a clipped ramp.
The pitch shifting app note on the Spin site shows how they get 2 ramps which are 180 degrees out of phase with each other.
